Inner States
Between exhaustion, resistance and composure
This group gathers works that look inward. Hübner’s figures withdraw, pause or set out. “December” and “Fertig” know exhaustion without confusing it with failure. “Neon Scream” takes loss of control to the point where new clarity can emerge.
Color works differently here than in the works of movement: it appears as a crack, as a rising field, as a single point of light in the gray. What the picture does not narrate, it keeps open. Hübner’s works do not close a story; they release a situation.
Description
Faces and figures in retreat: closed eyes, lowered heads, an open scream in “Neon Scream.” The gray of the figuration dominates; color appears as a rift, as a rising field or as a single point of light. The formats range from 70 × 50 cm to 140 × 70 cm.
Idea
The group looks inward. “December” and “Fertig” show exhaustion without equating it with failure; “Sturm,” “Chaos” and “Flucht” tell of unrest and departure; “Ruhe,” “Zeit” and “Erfahrung” of composure. The pictures do not close a story; they hold a situation open.
Context
Here the psychological side of Hübner’s painting comes to the fore. The portrait becomes a site of inner experience, the neon accent a sign of a state of mind. The works stand in the tradition of the expressive portrait and translate it into a clear, contemporary visual language.
What sets it apart
With 14 works, this is the largest group. Several works are conceived as pairs and develop their own drama when hung side by side. Almost all pictures are UV-reactive; “Goldregen” adds gold to the color world.
For collectors & spaces
These works hold calm spaces: living areas, places of retreat, law firms and practices in which pictures may have presence without dominating. Several works are conceived as pairs and develop their own drama when hung side by side.
