Visual Description
A monochrome coastal scene in a narrow panorama: a seated man looks across calm water toward a sailboat. Clouds drift in broad, soft grays. A vertical, bright blue field of color opens the horizon like a window—within it, the boat and its reflection in the water shimmer.
Artistic Interpretation
“Zu Hause” (German for “at home”) explores belonging, memory and direction. The figure rests, yet the gaze remains on the move. The blue “window” marks hope, destination and an inner compass—a quiet picture about arriving and continuing to look ahead.
Art-Historical Context
Monochrome figuration meets a single field of color—a dialogue between New Figuration, a bold Minimalist gesture and cinematic landscape. The photographic crop and the strict vertical anchor the work in a clearly contemporary visual language.
Exclusivity
A one-of-a-kind work in a striking format (140 × 70 cm). A signature field of tension: a calm black-and-white landscape, a sculptural figure and an intense vertical blue as a spatial cut. Hübner’s signature style is instantly recognizable.
Collector Value
A statement piece that reads strongly from a distance and has poetic calm—ideal for central placements in galleries, cultural venues and reception areas, as well as private collections. A perfect way to expand a group of works around Hübner’s dialogue between monochrome and color and his narrative coastal motifs.
More About the Artist
Matthias Hübner (b. 1976) combines high-contrast black and white with neon/UV color in modern surrealistic realism; people, emotions and open interpretations are at the center, and since 2020 he has been working experimentally again. Early prizes (GDR 1989, Europe 1993) and his selection as a 2025 Teravarna finalist mark his development.
