Visual Description
A monochrome, close-up portrait with a direct gaze: the face is framed by both hands, while shadows and fine lines shape an arresting expression. A dark, cloak-like frame encloses the figure, with dripping lines running across it. The background glows neon orange and pink, with cool blue accents at the edges.
Artistic Interpretation
“Chaos” condenses inner unrest and the search for self. The gesture of the hands is both protection and alarm; the eyes reflect alertness and exhaustion. The bright neon color field appears like emotional noise—a picture about vulnerability, resilience and how we hold ourselves together amid the noise of the present.
Art-Historical Context
Monochrome figuration set against intense neon fields draws on New Figuration, Pop aesthetics and urban, gestural painting. The bold cropping and drip marks recall cinematic and street-art strategies of today.
Exclusivity
A one-of-a-kind work with a strong signature: precise black-and-white modeling, an iconic hand gesture and a dripping neon background. Hübner’s signature style—monochrome drama plus selective color—is instantly recognizable and works powerfully in an exhibition setting.
Collector Value
A statement piece that reads from a distance and has psychological depth—well suited to central placements in galleries, cultural venues and reception areas, as well as private collections. An ideal addition to a group of Hübner works centered on portraiture, emotion and color contrast.
More About the Artist
Matthias Hübner (b. 1976) combines high-contrast black and white with neon/UV color in modern surrealistic realism; people, emotions and open interpretations are at the center, and since 2020 he has been working experimentally again. Early prizes (GDR 1989, Europe 1993) and his selection as a 2025 Teravarna finalist mark his development.
