Visual Description
An extreme close-up of a screaming face in monochrome. The left half of the picture tears open into a neon-pink field; the contour breaks down into angular fragments. A deep black mouth, a tense expression, fine tracks of tears—hard chiaroscuro and a bold crop.
Artistic Interpretation
“Neon Scream” condenses release, overload and liberation. The neon pink acts like an energetic tear that turns the inside out; the scream becomes signal, catharsis, revolt. A picture about emotion as a force and the moment in which loss of control tips into clarity.
Art-Historical Context
New Figuration in a photographic close-up meets Pop and urban aesthetics: flat neon, graphic fragmentation and the iconic contrast of black and white against pink. Its visual impact connects to bold portrait painting and contemporary protest iconography.
Exclusivity
A one-of-a-kind work with high recognition value: a strict portrait format, a neon-pink fracture line, a fragmented silhouette and precise grayscale. A clear Hübner signature (monochrome figuration plus selective color) with a strong exhibition presence.
Collector Value
A statement piece with maximum impact from a distance and psychological intensity—ideal for central placements in galleries, cultural venues and reception areas, and for collections focused on emotion, identity and urban visual rhetoric.
More About the Artist
Matthias Hübner (b. 1976) combines high-contrast black and white with neon/UV color in modern surrealistic realism; people, emotions and open interpretations are at the center, and since 2020 he has been working experimentally again. Early prizes (GDR 1989, Europe 1993) and his selection as a 2025 Teravarna finalist mark his development.
