Visual Description

On the natural-toned painting board, Focky appears head-on. The bright orange beak dominates the lower part of the picture and creates a strong contrast to the calm background. Above it sits the characteristic tall oval single eye with fine black veining. The head is painted in warm sand tones and covered by a ring of turquoise circles and white dots – like a floating universe of dots.

At the top, the head is finished with a bandana-like knot and a cloth swinging out to the side. The neck runs into a vertical column of turquoise, beige and white with clear stripes. Small white rays heighten the figure’s radiant effect.

Artistic Interpretation

“Focky 6” shows the cult duck as a focused companion with a touch of street cool. The large eye stands for inner clarity and conscious perception, while the bandana becomes a symbol of independence, attitude and being “ready for action.” The orange beak conveys warmth and expressiveness – here Focky embodies the energy to go your own way with open eyes, clear focus and a wink.

The dots around the head recall thought bubbles, or the possibilities that open up around us when we are aligned within.

Art-Historical Context

Like the other works in the edition, “Focky 6” sits between Pop Art, urban contemporary art and character art. The stylized figure, clear line work, flat color and decorative dot pattern draw on the aesthetics of comics and street art.

At the same time, Ali Görmez is developing a character universe of his own, in which Focky, as a recurring lead figure, carries themes such as focus, self-confidence and playful rebellion.

More About the Artist

Ali Görmez, born in Bielefeld in 1980, lives and works in Berlin. His visual language brings together Pop Art, urban contemporary art and figurative character painting. From early cartoon drawings and influences such as Keith Haring and James Rizzi, he developed iconic characters like “The Eddies” and “Focky the Duck.”

With clear contours, bold colors and strongly symbolic imagery, he gives Love, Peace & Art, as well as themes like focus and inner strength, a contemporary form.
