Visual Description
White railing bars draw horizontal lines through the picture; in the foreground, a bright orange lifebuoy hangs in its white holder. Beyond lies shallow, silvery water with pale sandbanks, and above it a deep blue sky with a few clouds. The ring sits at the lower right and sets the only warm point of color.
Artistic Interpretation
The lifebuoy is both sign and object: it stands for safety without showing danger. In the calm of the day, the emergency device becomes a pictorial motif that speaks of serenity. The railing lines frame the view and cut the horizon into stripes, like the staves of a silent score.
Art-Historical Context
The division of the surface into lines and diagonals refers to the New Vision of the 1920s, to Alexander Rodchenko and László Moholy-Nagy, who discovered everyday objects as graphic form. The saturated color adds a contemporary accent.
Exclusivity
The work with the strongest color accent in the series: it acts both as a counterpoint and as an eye-catcher among the calm black-and-white pictures. The composition is rigorous, the palette limited to orange, white, blue and silver.
Collector Value
A color accent for otherwise calm, bright spaces: agencies, hotels, stairwells and living spaces. As a pair with “Ferry, Open Deck,” it creates a small crossing sequence on the wall.
More About the Artist
Olli Boehm combines digital photography with mixed-media interventions to create layered pictorial spaces in which reality, memory and atmosphere interlock. His works condense urban and human situations into visual metaphors—between blur, texture and precise composition.
With pure photography, as in the series “A day at the sea” and in his street pictures, he shows the clear, reduced side of this approach.
