Visual Description

On the natural-toned painting board, Focky appears head-on with a broad turquoise beak that fills almost the entire lower part of the picture. The striking single eye sits at the center of a turban-like headband in turquoise, olive green and gold, divided into graphic segments and played around by white dot accents. Two white wings sprout on either side, pointing upward like small comic-style pinions. The neck extends downward into a decorative column of geometric patterns, lines and dots. Black contours, white highlights and the compact 20 × 20 cm format condense the figure into a powerful Pop Art icon.

More About the Artist

Ali Görmez, born in Bielefeld in 1980, lives and works in Berlin. His artistic language moves between Pop Art, urban contemporary art and figurative painting. He drew cartoons from an early age; later influences included Keith Haring, James Rizzi and Picasso. From these he developed his own iconic characters such as “The Eddies” and “Focky the Duck,” which he realizes in oil, acrylic and mixed media on canvas and panels, as well as in sculptural works. His work stands for an art that connects Love, Peace & Art with clear, contemporary images.
