Visual Description
Delicate gradations of ultramarine, petrol and midnight blue fill the surface. From the dark rises a narrow, upright outline reminiscent of a seated or standing figure, with a soft head and inclined shoulder. A fine structure of scratches and fibers lies over everything like an old photographic plate.
Artistic Interpretation
Here the portrait becomes a state: one recognizes no one, yet senses someone. The picture refuses detail and gains closeness as a result. It is a picture for viewers who take their time.
Art-Historical Context
The reduction to color and shadow recalls the meditative color spaces of Mark Rothko, here with a human trace. As with Gerhard Richter, closeness arises through blur.
Exclusivity
The most abstract work in the blue trilogy: it stands between portrait and color field. The finely graded blues remain alive even at close range.
Collector Value
A calm focal point for bedrooms, waiting areas, libraries and spaces where stillness is desired. Together with “Almost Blue” and “Profile Blue,” it forms a three-part wall piece.
More About the Artist
Olli Boehm combines digital photography with mixed-media interventions to create layered pictorial spaces in which reality, memory and atmosphere interlock. His works condense urban and human situations into visual metaphors—between blur, texture and precise composition.
