Visual Description
A wet street in the dark: bright patches of light on the asphalt and in the shop windows dissolve into broad brushstrokes. In the middle walks a small figure with an umbrella, hardly more than a sign. Two bare trees frame the scene, and puddles gleam in the foreground.
Artistic Interpretation
The city in the rain turns everyone into a loner. The picture shows loneliness not as a lack but as a state of being on the move: one is alone, and yet the city glows.
Art-Historical Context
Wet streets at night are an old subject of photography, from Brassaï’s Paris to Saul Leiter’s rain pictures. The painterly dissolved lights give this work the feel of an ink drawing.
Exclusivity
The strength of the picture lies in the contrast between hard areas of light and dark and the tiny, precisely placed figure. The photograph bears the artist’s signature.
Collector Value
A standalone piece for hallways, libraries, hotel rooms and living spaces. It appeals to collectors looking for cityscapes with poetic dissolution who know Boehm’s group of works “Urbane Bewegungen” (Urban Movements).
More About the Artist
Olli Boehm combines digital photography with mixed-media interventions to create layered pictorial spaces in which reality, memory and atmosphere interlock. His works condense urban and human situations into visual metaphors—between blur, texture and precise composition.
With pure photography, as in the series “A day at the sea” and in his street pictures, he shows the clear, reduced side of this approach.
