Visual Description

Artistic Interpretation

The picture does not hold a moment but its after-echo. The vertical traces make movement and memory visible. The face seems to melt away and yet remains legible: a question of how much identity lies in a contour.

Art-Historical Context

The vertical smearing recalls Gerhard Richter’s dragged paint and slit-scan photography, in which time enters the picture as stripes. The intensity of color connects the portrait with monochrome painting.
