Visual Description
A single birch with a snow-covered crown stands in a wide snowy landscape. Behind it glows a sky in gold, yellow and delicate violet that bathes the snowfield in warm and cool tones. More frosted trees stand on the horizon.
Artistic Interpretation
The picture turns cold into light. The birch stands calm and upright, a sign of constancy. Where “Sommer” tells of abundance, “Winter” speaks of clarity and stillness.
Art-Historical Context
The work stands in the tradition of the winter landscape, which since Romanticism has explored the mood of light on snow. Graf paints it with a thick, impressionistic application of paint.
Exclusivity
Landscape format, 60 × 80 cm, conceived as a companion piece to “Sommer”: the same format, the same motif of a single tree, the opposite season.
Collector Value
A luminous work for living spaces, chalets, hotels and practices. As a pair with “Sommer,” an especially convincing presentation.
