Visual Description
Three soldiers in camouflage uniforms and helmets move through a destroyed city. One kneels and speaks into a radio, a second lies on the ground with his weapon, and a third runs into the smoke. In the background stand a mosque with a dome and minaret, burning buildings and dark clouds of smoke.
Artistic Interpretation
The picture shows war without glorification: tension, communication and danger define the scene. It is a picture of its time that invites reflection on the conflicts of our present.
Art-Historical Context
The work stands in the long tradition of war and history painting, which records the events of its time. Graf renders it with the precision of his realism.
Exclusivity
Landscape format, 80 × 100 cm. Equipment, uniforms and architecture are painted with great accuracy; smoke and light lend the scene drama.
Collector Value
A work for collectors of painting on contemporary history, as well as for institutions, museums and exhibitions on war and peace.
