Visual Description
A slender tree with an airy crown stands alone in a wide, sunlit meadow. Behind it runs a row of dark trees, and above, a sky with clouds in pink, orange and blue. The paint is applied in a thick, lively way, partly with a palette knife.
Artistic Interpretation
The picture captures the warmth and expanse of a summer evening. The single tree becomes a figure that stands for constancy and vitality. Part of Graf’s seasons, in which light and mood play the leading role.
Art-Historical Context
In this work, Graf shows a freer, impressionistic side. The impasto application of paint and the interest in changing light stand in the tradition of nineteenth-century plein-air painting.
Exclusivity
Landscape format, 60 × 80 cm, oil on canvas. Together with “Winter” and “Herbststimmung,” it forms a small cycle of the seasons.
Collector Value
A cheerful, light-filled work for living spaces, practices, hotels and offices. Especially appealing for collectors as a pair of opposites with “Winter.”
