Visual Description

Batcat appears as a compact, clearly defined figure whose presence reaches far beyond its format. The silhouette combines a cat’s curving posture with the graphic contours of bat wings and a mask-like face. Clean lines, precisely modeled transitions and a deliberately set surface texture guide the eye over ears, mask, body and base without tipping into decorative arbitrariness.

From a distance the sculpture works as a striking sign – up close, subtle details, edges and textures reveal themselves, condensing the figure’s character and underlining its physical quality.

Artistic Interpretation

Batcat is a study of duality and perception. The familiar motif of the cat – an emblem of independence, alertness and elegance – is fused with attributes of the bat and the masquerade. The result is a being that feels protective, playful, mysterious and slightly subversive all at once.

Afrić uses the figure to ask questions about identity, staging and self-image in the context of contemporary visual culture: how do we present ourselves? Which masks do we choose?

Batcat remains accessible but never banal – the figure invites collectors to negotiate their own projections between light, shadow, humor and seriousness.

Art-Historical Context

Batcat stands in line with positions that understand pop culture, comic iconography and character design as a relevant visual language in their own right.

The sculpture draws on:

- the tradition of small-scale sculpture and figurative sculpture,

- the aesthetics of designer toys and urban art,

- and the visual logic of graphic novels, animation and games.

Afrić lifts the figure out of the sphere of merchandise and anchors it in an artistic context in which form, posture and surface are treated with the same compositional rigor as in classical sculpture. Batcat holds its own as a contemporary art figure that quotes the iconographic codes of pop culture precisely while remaining independent in its design.

Exclusivity

Batcat is produced in a limited, numbered edition and – depending on the edition – signed. Each sculpture follows a controlled quality standard designed for consistency and collector-grade quality. Precise execution, professional production and curated presentation place Batcat clearly outside anonymous mass-produced goods.

The limited edition creates scarcity, while the clear attribution to Winton Afrić’s oeuvre gives the work authenticity and a lasting point of reference within a collection.

Collector Value

Batcat is a key work for collectors who collect at the intersection of fine art, character design and high-end collectibles, who are looking for iconic figures with clear recognizability, and who are building a coherent, curated cosmos of figures by Winton Afrić.

The figure works both as an autonomous statement piece and as part of a series of Afrić characters. Its strong formal language, deliberate use of pop-cultural codes and limited availability create a solid foundation for lasting value – especially in the context of a consistently evolving oeuvre and an international collector scene for art collectibles.

More About the Artist

Winton Afrić is a concept sculptor and sculptor focused on creature-based sculptures with a strong narrative charge. His work combines digital and analog processes to create figures that stand up both in the international fantasy and collector market and in a fine-art context.

With works such as Vor’Gash, he positions himself as an artist who takes the fantastic seriously – formally precise, rich in content and made for collectors.
