Visual Description
Kharzuul appears as an expansive wall sculpture: a dragon head turned to the side, with mighty ivory horns and striking fangs. The surface shows densely scaled reds and charcoal tones, interspersed with horn-like spines and finely modeled notches. The profile is drawn forward with tension; light breaks on the edges of the scales and rows of teeth and gives the bust a museum-like presence – raw, earthy, uncompromising.
Artistic Interpretation
Kharzuul embodies primal force under control. The figure is not theatrical but directed – a guardian at the threshold, an emblem of law, consequence and self-assertion. The volcanic color (ember red over a dark base) reads as an image of transformation through heat: the old burns away to reveal clarity. Kharzuul is thus less a monster than a guardian figure – an allegory of focus and steadfastness.
Art-Historical Context
The work moves between:
- the classical tradition of the bust and architectural guardian figures (gargoyles and chimeras),
- the trophy form as a historical mode of wall presentation,
and contemporary creature design from film and VFX, into which Afrić introduces an autonomous sculptural rigor.
In this way, Kharzuul carries pop and mythological iconography into an auteur sculpture that works well beyond decoration.
Exclusivity
Kharzuul is a one-of-a-kind sculpture (a single piece) from 2020. No further editions or reproductions are currently planned. Presentation: wall-mounted bust with a clean, stable hanging system – ready for exhibition.
Collector Value
Kharzuul is an iconic statement piece for collectors at the intersection of fine art, fantasy sculpture and high-end collectibles. Its size, commanding color and singular execution make it truly distinctive – powerful in creative offices, studios, private collector’s rooms or curated thematic hangings (for example as a wall series with Allosaurus and Thrannox).
As a unique piece, it secures lasting relevance and clear recognizability.
More About the Artist
Winton Afrić combines digital modeling, classical formal discipline and visual storytelling into precise art sculptures with strong character. His figures anchor mythical and creature motifs in the context of contemporary sculpture – formally rigorous, narratively dense and made for collectors.
Kharzuul holds a key position in this body of work: the idea of the guardian as an energy-charged wall figure presented with museum-level care.
