Selbstliebender Mohn

Visual Description

A frontally staged portrait of a woman fills the canvas. Round turquoise-green glasses frame bright blue eyes; lips in an intense orange-red set a radiant accent. Large poppy blossoms in warm reds and oranges wind around the face, their color running down in fine drips. Behind them, fields of green and turquoise vibrate – a luminous contrast of warm and cool.

Artistic Interpretation

Here the poppy stands for joy of life and love – and for fragility. Just as a cut blossom quickly loses its glow, the work speaks to how delicate self-love is: separated from its source, it fades. The confident yet vulnerable face invites viewers to nurture their own radiance – with attention, passion and tenderness toward themselves.

Art-Historical Context

The clear iconography and signal colors connect to Pop Art, while gestural brushwork and drips add a neo-expressive note. The large-format portrait joins the contemporary figure with floral symbolism and a palette reminiscent of Fauvism – intense, emotional, direct.

Exclusivity

A large-format original with highly luminous color and a striking pairing of portrait and wreath of blossoms. The 4 cm stretcher depth adds to its object quality and makes the work a standalone eye-catcher.

Collector Value

A strong statement piece about self-love and vitality – combining figurative presence, floral symbolism and radiant fields of color. A fitting centerpiece for contemporary collections and representative spaces.
