Visual Description
A close, monochrome portrait in vertical format. A hand half covers the face; the uncovered eye looks straight out, with fine freckles and loose strands of hair structuring the skin. A strong yellow brushstroke lies across the mouth, and the eyelid carries orange accents. Deep blacks, soft grays and a striking crop.
Artistic Interpretation
“Rosé” explores voice, protection and self-assertion. The yellow brushstroke reads like a brief “mute”—and at the same time like an energetic sign that turns silence into expression. Between intimacy and resistance, a picture emerges about vulnerability, clarity and agency.
Art-Historical Context
New Figuration meets Pop-inflected color accents and a gestural mark-making that recalls urban and street art. Chiaroscuro and bold cropping create a graphic, contemporary portrait language that reads strongly from a distance.
Exclusivity
A one-of-a-kind work with an iconic gesture: the half-covered face, the concentrated gaze and the yellow brushstroke as a striking motif. Hübner’s signature style is clearly recognizable—monochrome figuration plus selective color.
Collector Value
A statement piece in a collector-friendly format (80 × 60 cm): a compelling choice for central placements in galleries, cultural venues and reception areas, as well as private collections. Ideal for complementing a group of works around Hübner’s dialogue between monochrome and color.
More About the Artist
Matthias Hübner (b. 1976) combines high-contrast black and white with neon/UV color in modern surrealistic realism; people, emotions and open interpretations are at the center, and since 2020 he has been working experimentally again. Early prizes (GDR 1989, Europe 1993) and his selection as a 2025 Teravarna finalist mark his development.
