Visual Description
A figure seen from behind in three-quarter profile: dark hair with silvery strands, warmly modeled skin. A bright red garment falls in clear folds against an intensely blue ground. On the left, a vertical field of gold from which fine yellow drips slide down over the shoulder like a delicate chain. Precise contours, soft transitions and strong color iconography.
Artistic Interpretation
“Göttin” (German for “goddess”) celebrates dignity, self-assurance and quiet sensuality. The averted pose refuses a direct gaze and shifts the focus to bearing and presence. Red stands for vitality, blue for calm and expanse, and the gold lends a sacred, timeless aura—a picture about inner radiance rather than staging.
Art-Historical Context
Classical drapery and the figure seen from behind meet contemporary fields of color. The combination of iconic gold, primary blue and bold red places the work between New Figuration, Pop aesthetics and today’s color-field and Minimalist gestures, while echoing the iconographic tradition of gold.
Exclusivity
A one-of-a-kind work with high recognition value: a strong triad of red, blue and gold, a striking portrait format, precise modeling of the figure and the yellow drips as a tactile signature. Powerful in an exhibition setting and visually commanding.
Collector Value
A statement piece that reads from a distance with an elegant drama of color—ideal for central placements in galleries, reception areas and living spaces. An excellent addition to a group of Hübner works around figuration, color and iconic surfaces.
More About the Artist
Matthias Hübner (b. 1976) combines high-contrast black and white with neon/UV color in modern surrealistic realism; people, emotions and open interpretations are at the center, and since 2020 he has been working experimentally again. Early prizes (GDR 1989, Europe 1993) and his selection as a 2025 Teravarna finalist mark his development.
