SENTIMENT – Images from Olli Boehm

“sentiment” is the most extensive photo book of Olli Boehm’s work to date: 242 pages with 147 color illustrations. Set against a backdrop of soulful pictures, it brings together photographs that are partly painted over, digitally edited, or captured during breaks in shooting.

Technical perfection is not what drives him. He is interested in the whole: the moment, the situation, light, color and motif. Black-and-white photographs in their simplicity stand beside painted-over and processed images, and the viewer’s imagination does the rest.

What the pictures share is an emotional story. Boehm compares every picture to a song and the book to the album. Some images are analog, others digital; what matters is whether and how a picture works.
