Talking Helps

Visual Description

A very light vertical format. In the upper third appear a woman’s lips and chin, soft and crossed by vertical streaks; on one side, gold and pink tones drip down. In the lower part, “talking helps” is written in flowing black handwriting. The rest remains white and open.

Artistic Interpretation

The mouth stands for language, the writing for the promise within it. The picture combines tenderness with directness: a sentence that sounds like encouragement and does not lecture. It invites conversation without pressing.

Art-Historical Context

Text-based pictures have a history in conceptual art, with Jenny Holzer and Barbara Kruger, for example. Unlike their bold statements, the writing here remains personal and handwritten. The dragged paint recalls Gerhard Richter.

Exclusivity

Together with “Remember That,” the picture forms a diptych of two sentences that answer each other. The work lives from reduction: little color, a lot of white, one sentence.

Collector Value

For spaces of conversation: practices, consulting rooms, kitchens and living spaces. The light format feels friendly and also suits smaller walls.

More About the Artist

Olli Boehm combines digital photography with mixed-media interventions to create layered pictorial spaces in which reality, memory and atmosphere interlock. His works condense urban and human situations into visual metaphors—between blur, texture and precise composition.
