Visual Description
A vertical format in blues and night tones. From a velvety blue with fine scratches and grain rises the outline of a head in profile, turned to the right, with hair tied up. Face and clothing are black, without inner detail, and the shoulders dissolve into dark areas. At the lower edge, a soft violet resonates.
Artistic Interpretation
The figure is there and not there. Instead of facial features, the picture shows an attitude: withdrawal, thoughtfulness, night. The blue does not feel cool here but like a space one can retreat into.
Art-Historical Context
The silhouette portrait has a long tradition, from cut-paper silhouettes to photography. Boehm brings it close to Gerhard Richter’s principle of blur and gives it the depth of a color space.
Exclusivity
Part of a series in blue that also includes “Profile Blue” and “Blue Shadow.” Together, the three works form a trilogy that works individually as well as a group.
Collector Value
For bedrooms, libraries, practices and hotels: the deep color acts as a calm focal point and holds its own against dark walls and subdued light.
More About the Artist
Olli Boehm combines digital photography with mixed-media interventions to create layered pictorial spaces in which reality, memory and atmosphere interlock. His works condense urban and human situations into visual metaphors—between blur, texture and precise composition.
