Freedom and Alienation
The individual between belonging, resistance and self-assertion
In this group of works, Olli Boehm is concerned with the human being between loneliness, belonging and the wish for freedom. His figures seem connected to one another and yet often remain trapped in their own perception. Works such as “Together Alone” and “Morning Is Broken” make this tension between outer closeness and inner distance visible.
Photography, digital overlays and typographic fragments merge into layered pictorial spaces. In “Free Your Whole Life” and “Finally Free from the Inhumanity of Humankind,” freedom becomes a call to break away from social expectations and alienating structures. “Proud to Be Different” counters this with the conscious acceptance of one’s own individuality.
Description
Figures side by side and yet on their own, fragments of writing, digital overlays and dense textures. Titles such as “Together Alone,” “Morning Is Broken” and “Proud to be different” become part of the pictorial statement. The formats reach up to 160 × 120 cm.
Idea
The group tells of people between loneliness, belonging and the desire for freedom. “Free your whole live” and “Finally Free from the Inhumanity of Humankind” frame freedom as a call to action, while “Proud to be different” counters with the conscious acceptance of one’s own individuality.
Context
This is where Boehm’s work is most clearly social. The combination of photography, typography and overpainting recalls political collage and poster art, yet remains quiet and open to personal interpretation.
What sets it apart
“Free your whole live” (2018) is the earliest work in the group, “Finally Free from the Inhumanity of Humankind” (2025) the most recent. Together they show how consistently Boehm has pursued the theme of freedom over the years.
For collectors & spaces
For collectors, the group offers works with a clear stance and social relevance. They suit spaces in which art is meant to start a conversation: agencies, law firms, cultural venues and private collections.
