Visual Description
In a vertical format, in muted sage and gray, a monumental advertising poster stretches over a cityscape of old buildings, tangled cables and power poles. It shows a detail of a face with lips and dark glasses, along with lettering in Romanian (“Frumusețea este o sclipire”—beauty is a sparkle) and the logo of a cosmetics brand. Below, a man in a yellow safety vest stands in front of parked cars.
Artistic Interpretation
The picture layers promises of beauty over street reality: the flawless face on the facade, below it cables, cars and a worker. It is not an accusation but a precise observation of how advertising overwrites urban space while everyday life goes on beneath it.
Art-Historical Context
Poster culture and décollage, as in the work of Jacques Villeglé, and Pop Art’s critique of advertising provide the frame of reference. The photographic montage connects the picture thematically with “Typo-girl light” and “Typo-girl dark,” in which campaign motifs are likewise broken.
Exclusivity
The only work in the selection with uniform color toning and photographic layering, which allows it to mediate between pure photography and Boehm’s overpainted works. The photograph bears the artist’s signature.
Collector Value
For agencies, media companies, law firms and architecture firms, and for collectors of contemporary photography with a social perspective. A picture that starts conversations.
More About the Artist
Olli Boehm combines digital photography with mixed-media interventions to create layered pictorial spaces in which reality, memory and atmosphere interlock. His works condense urban and human situations into visual metaphors—between blur, texture and precise composition.
With pure photography, as in the series “A day at the sea” and in his street pictures, he shows the clear, reduced side of this approach.
