Visual Description
A monochrome side view of a child or young figure: head tilted back, eyes closed, arms open. On the left, a light, speckled surface; on the right, deep black for hair and background. Bright magenta strokes and drips run across forehead and face—precise and full of energy.
Artistic Interpretation
“Farbstrich Ende” (German for “brushstroke: end”) stages letting go, arrival and consequence. The gestural beginning is followed by the trace that remains: the magenta impulse becomes a mark of experience—not an injury but a signature. Posture and breath open up a space of freedom, trust and becoming oneself.
Art-Historical Context
A dialogue between New Figuration and a reduced gesture of color, with references to Pop and urban aesthetics (speckles, drips). The clear crop in profile and the single placement of color anchor the work in a contemporary, graphically concise visual language. As the counterpart to “Farbstrich Anfang,” it forms a conceptual diptych.
Exclusivity
A one-of-a-kind work in a compact portrait format: a black-and-white figure plus a magenta mark on a textured ground—an unmistakable Hübner signature with high recognition value. Especially effective as a pair with “Farbstrich Anfang.”
Collector Value
A statement piece with strong symbolism that reads from a distance. Ideal for central placements in galleries, educational settings and reception areas, and an excellent way to build or complete a group of works (the Farbstrich series).
More About the Artist
Matthias Hübner (b. 1976) combines high-contrast black and white with neon/UV color in modern surrealistic realism; people, emotions and open interpretations are at the center, and since 2020 he has been working experimentally again. Early prizes (GDR 1989, Europe 1993) and his selection as a 2025 Teravarna finalist mark his development.
